Tell Your Senators to Protect Women's Health and Oppose S. 906
Anti-choice Senators have jumped on the House's passage of H.R. 3 by introducing a companion bill in the Senate, S. 906. We can't let this dangerous bill move forward.
During the H.R. 3 debate, nearly 40 Representatives spoke out on the House floor to detail the dangers of H.R. 3. Their speeches illustrated how the bill would impose tax increases on millions of individuals and small businesses with insurance plans that cover abortion and harm women's health by erecting barriers designed to prevent women from getting the abortion care they need.
This extreme and dangerous bill harms women's health in many ways, but here are some of its most outrageous provisions:
- Raises taxes and increases costs on many individuals and small businesses with insurance plans that cover abortion, which could force individuals and employers to drop abortion coverage from their health insurance plans. It could even shut down the entire health insurance market for insurance coverage that includes abortion.
- Writes into permanent law a ban on abortion coverage for all women who depend on the government for their health care. This includes low-income women currently covered under Medicaid, women who will become eligible for Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, women serving in the U.S. military, federal employees, residents of the District of Columbia, women in federal prisons and women covered by the Indian Health Service.
- Unbelievably, it contains no exceptions for circumstances where a woman faces even serious health consequences, even if continuing the pregnancy could cause permanent damage to her heart, lungs, or kidneys.
Before the vote, you helped us send over 15,000 messages in opposition to H.R. 3 to Members of Congress. Now we need you to make sure the Senate gets the message loud and clear — tell your Senators to stop the attacks on women's health and oppose this harmful bill.
