PRESIDENT OBAMA’S BUDGET HELPS WOMEN AND FAMILIES
FY 2010 Budget an Essential Break from the Failed Policies of the Past

(Washington, D.C.) President Obama’s proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2010 makes investments critical to the economic future of women and families, the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) said today.  Following is a statement by NWLC Co-President Nancy Duff Campbell.

“The budgets of the past eight years cut vital supports to vulnerable women and children while redistributing wealth to the very richest.  They neglected fundamental needs yet piled up debt, even when the economy was growing.  Today, President Obama has issued a budget blueprint that begins to correct this disastrous course.

“The President’s budget makes a serious down payment on comprehensive health care reform.  It invests in education, starting with the first years of life.  It provides additional support for those most vulnerable.  And it does so in a fair and responsible way, by beginning to make corporations and the very wealthy pay their fair share of taxes.

“This budget charts a new direction, but it will take a lot of work to get there.  We look forward to working with the Obama Administration and Congress to make a fair and responsible budget a reality.”
