NWLC APPLAUDS HOUSE ON MOVING FORWARD WITH HEALTH CARE REFORM
(Washington, DC) The National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) commends the House Ways and Means, Energy and Commerce, and Education and Labor Committees for releasing a strong discussion draft for health care reform. The following is a statement by Marcia D. Greenberger, Co-President of NWLC:
“The draft legislation released by the House takes critically important steps towards improving access to comprehensive, quality, affordable health care for women and their families.
“It confronts many of the particular obstacles faced by women in our current health care system, and would eliminate key discriminatory insurance industry practices that are especially harmful to women. It makes critical headway towards women’s ability to secure access to quality, affordable health care throughout their lives.
“This draft legislation is especially heartening to the thousands of health care advocates who will mobilize this week in Washington, DC to lobby for quality, affordable health care for all. It underscores that health care reform is achievable this year.
“The National Women’s Law Center looks forward to working with the Committees to ensure a strong bill, and to putting in place reforms that will provide all people with guaranteed access to quality, affordable, comprehensive health care.”
