JUDICIARY COMMITTEE APPROVES SOTOMAYOR’S NOMINATION
NWLC Applauds Swift Action, Urges the Senate to Vote before August Recess
(Washington, DC) The Senate Judiciary Committee voted today to confirm Judge Sonia Sotomayor’s nomination to the Supreme Court. A statement from Marcia D. Greenberger, Co-President of the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC), follows:
“The strong vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee today underscores Judge Sotomayor’s extraordinary qualifications. We applaud the Committee for acting swiftly to bring this outstanding nominee one step closer to making Supreme Court history.
“Judge Sotomayor’s legal record and testimony before the Committee revealed her to be an impressive judge who is deeply respectful of legal precedent and anchors her decisions in the specific facts of the case.
“The National Women’s Law Center strongly supports her confirmation and urges the Senate to vote on the nomination before the August recess so that Judge Sotomayor can begin the important work that will come before her in September.”
