Graphic Design Intern

Summary

The National Women's Law Center (NWLC) is seeking a Graphic Design Intern to assist in the visual identity and communication efforts through online and print mediums, including printed materials, elements for NWLC’s website, and content shared over NWLC’s social media accounts. The internship will provide hands-on work experience in graphic design and communications at a nonprofit organization, and is ideal for graphic design students looking for real-world experience.

The intern must be available during the summer semester with flexible start and end dates between May and August 2013. The intern will ideally be available to work full-time (35 hours per week) during the summer semester, but part-time candidates (20 hours per week) will be considered as well.

Intern Duties and Responsibilities

Projects may include, but will not be limited to:

  • Assist with design of printed and digital marketing materials. These include brochures, fact sheets, presentations, and infographics.
  • Organize and assist in dealing with student photographers to build a photography archive
  • Assist with preparing artwork files for print and online use
  • Monitor and update inventories for printed materials
  • Organize and manage photography archives
  • Other duties may be assigned as design opportunities emerge

The majority of work will be conducted in Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 or 6 with occasional work in the Microsoft Office Suite; applicants must be skilled with both.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, primarily Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
  • Excellent design skills with a strong focus on typography and layout
  • Excellent communications and organizational skills
  • Resourceful with ability to take initiative and to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, primarily Word and PowerPoint
  • Takes creative approach to projects
  • Commitment to social justice work
