Health Policy Intern

The National Women's Law Center (NWLC) is seeking a health policy intern for the fall 2013 and spring 2014.  Ideal candidates are public policy, public health, or related degree graduate students.  The Center conducts internship programs for each academic semester, including summer.

Internship positions are typically unpaid; however, students may earn credit hours from their respective schools or seek fellowships to fund their work with the Center. Students who are available to volunteer 12 to 15 hours or more per week during the academic year are eligible to apply. 

The Organization

The National Women's Law Center is a non-profit organization that has been working since 1972 to advance and protect women's legal rights. The Center focuses on major policy areas of importance to women and their families including economic security, education, employment, health, and reproductive rights, with special attention given to the concerns of low-income women. 

Description

As part of the Center’s work on women and health care, the health policy intern will support the team in working on issues of importance to women in health care reform implementation, with a focus on low-income women.  Responsibilities will include but are not limited to research projects that draw from a variety of sources, analyzing policy proposals, editing written materials, drafting reports and other written materials, coordinating with national and state-based coalitions on legislative and regulatory matters, and assisting with administrative duties as needed.

Qualifications and Benefits

Master’s degree candidates in public policy, public health, or related degrees. Must have excellent analytical, oral and written communication skills, and organizational skills; attention to detail; and a commitment to women's issues.
