(Washington, D.C.)  Today the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC), together with the Michigan law firm Smietanka, Buckleitner, Steffes and Gezon, filed a Title IX lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan against the Forest Hills School District outside of Grand Rapids, Michigan for failing to respond to the sexual assault of a high school student on school premises and the subsequent cyber-bullying and on-campus harassment suffered by the teenage girl. 

(Washington, D.C.) Today, the Supreme Court issued a 5-4 decision in Genesis Healthcare Corp. v. Symczyk, ruling that when an employee seeks to bring a class action under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and her own claim becomes “moot” before other employees have had an opportunity to join the case, the case will end, providing no relief for the other employees on whose behalf she filed suit.

This morning, the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) and other leading women’s health and advocacy organizations submitted nearly 350,000 comments to the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) in support of ensuring women’s access to birth control without co-pays or hassles, regardless of where they work.

(Washington, D.C.)  Women gained 25,000 of the 88,000 jobs added in March, according to new analysis by the National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) of Bureau of Labor Statistics data released this morning.  Women’s largest losses in March were in manufacturing (-12,000), adding to their losses in the recovery (see: Still No Recovery for Women in the Manufacturing Sector).  Since January 2010, the economy has gained over a half million manufacturing jobs — men have gained 557,000, while women have actually lost 36,000.
