Most of us have heard what happened last Friday; Rush Limbaugh attacked Georgetown Law Student Sandra Fluke calling her names that aren’t fit to be printed. Many people responded; some were rightfully outraged while others brushed off his statement. Not surprisingly, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), who just two weeks ago refused to let Ms. Fluke testify during the committee’s all-male expert contraceptive coverage hearing, did not come to Ms. Fluke’s defense. Instead in a letter to the committee Issa countered with, “I am struck by your clear failure to recognize your own contributions to the denigration of this discussion and attacks on people of religious faith.” Is it just me or did he just insinuate Rush’s comments were okay because both sides are engaging in the argument? This eye for an eye mentality has to stop for many reasons. One of the most important being it is immature, childish, and ultimately sets a bad example for our nation’s youth on how to deal with important and legitimate disagreements on policy issues.
Take Beantown Mom’s recent blog post about her sixteen year old daughter being bullied because of needing to take contraceptives for a serious medical condition. These teenagers used Rush Limbaugh’s words to hurt this young woman. No matter how much Rush apologizes, sincere or not, damage has already been done. It’s time to stop this attack on women’s health. Contraception is a critical preventive health benefit and it’s time we change the rhetoric around women’s health. We should not and will not idly stand by and let these words be used towards ourselves, our family, our friends, and the future generation of young women.

The Damage is Done Rush
I'd like to thank Rush for his comments last week. By not stepping up and renouncing those comments, the Republican candidates look as bad as he does! Since a majority of voters in this country are independent - and female, Rush's comments brought to light how out-of-touch Republican views of women are!
Women's march
Well said. Visit the Women's March page. March in your own state Capitol

Limbaugh
I am delighted to see women standing up in unison, working toward the defeat of a narrow minded bully, who is using a national microphone to spew ignorance and prejudice at all women! Women's healthcare cannot exclude reproductive care as it is a system within that is tied to a woman's general health and well being!
