Female Athletes Are Competitors On and Off the Field

There is no doubt that it is tough out there right now. In 2009, over 5.8 million women were unemployed. And with the Paycheck Fairness Act falling just two votes short in the Senate, women will continue to have too few tools to address pay discrimination in the workplace.

Here’s a tip for young women looking ahead at a tough job market — play sports. Young women who learned to be competitive, innovative, and work together as a team on the court, track, or field are more likely to have successful careers. In fact, more than four out of five executive businesswomen played sports growing up, and the vast majority report that the lessons they learned on the playing field contributed to their success in business.

Today bloggers are rallying online to highlight the benefits of sports participation. We hope that you will join us to ensure that girls in your community get the chance to become athletes. As today’s posts show — when you rally for girls in sports, she’ll win more than a game!
