An Ode to Title IX, on the Occasion of National Girls and Women and Sports Day
There once was a February day
to honor girls and women who play
Athletics and sports
on fields and on courts
Title IX having paved their way.
Sports builds tough bodies that fight
reaching for even greater heights,
Shaping girls with sharp minds
and hearts that are kind –
Confident leaders who know what is right.
Playing keeps health problems at bay,
And win or lose athletes learn ways
To set goals every season
Full of good reasons
To make them stronger women today.
And so on this day of honor
tell an athlete you know that you want her
to strive for the best
and remember to rest
‘cause we need her help to make Title IX stronger!
The author would like to note that she is by no means a poet, and apologizes for her feeble attempt at a limerick. She wrote her girls’ sports story last year, and wants you to know that if you share your story today, she promises never to write bad poems again!

A Title IX poem for Val
To celebrate women in sports
It's fitting to don your sweat shorts
The more that you sweat
The better you get
At beasting the boys on the courts!
