Older Women Work at a 32 Percent Discount
Given the pervasive nature of the nationwide gender pay gap, perhaps it should come as little surprise that the situation for America’s older women is even worse. Nonetheless, I was saddened to see that a new report from the U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee shows that in 2009, women over age 50 working full-time made an average of just 68 cents on the dollar compared to men in the same age group.
Moreover, more and more women are heading towards retirement without being able to rely upon a spouse’s income. The report points out that in 2009, the labor force included 5.7 million older women without spouses. This number is likely to increase.
Our nation’s population is aging, the recession is dragging on, and families of all ages depend on women’s income: in 2009, 40 percent of women were the primary breadwinners for their families. A career of lower earnings is likely to severely impact a woman’s retirement security. This new report underscores, once again, the insidiousness of pay discrimination and the importance of the fight for equal pay.

Fair pay, you got right! Not
Fair pay, you got right! Not much has changed since I was a young girl in the 70's! And it sure stinks! At least we are making a few steps in the right direction.
This is a huge issue for ALL women.
It saddens me that we are fighting for fair wages and working conditions, while they are fleecing at the trough of corporate greed!
It can all be done or undone with a stroke of a pen - Get involved!

My thoughts
While I totally agree that everybody should make the same for the same work, they should also recieve the same perks. You ask for the same pay, but more stringent rules, and more lenient concerning child care and sick days. Most companies give men a weeks vacation, and 3 - 5 sick days a year. Women on the other hand get the same vacation and sick days, same as them men. But also want 3 - 4 weeks maternal leave, and ask for leniency when they need to take a day off because their kid is sick. Now being a single parent, I have had to take off on the occasional sick day, and while I was able to take the day off, it was severly frowned upon, strictly because I am male. And, had to spend the majority of those days finding someone to watch my kid the next day instead of taking care of them. I have both a son and a daughter by the way. You ask for equal pay and rights, we ask for equal work and time on the job. It's that simple. pregnancy can be planned, have your mom watch your sick kid, and take a damn joke. You want things to be equal, then be an equal and don't try to make laws to cater to your whims and desires, don't make us walk on eggshells to avoid lawsuits. Yes, you have every right to equal opportunities and payscales. But, things should be truly equal not conitionally equal.

Before you pat yourself on
Before you pat yourself on the back, having guessed that child rearing is what has many women calling in sick, making assumptions on why women call in sick can be detrimental to the advancement of women in the workplace. It’s horrible to say, but men in the office will say a woman doesn’t take her career seriously when a she takes time off for family reasons. Women carry most of the responsibilities at home, whether caring for ill children or aging parents. That focus on gender, has created a situation where co-workers and managers expect women to be absent more often, and that, in turn, can creates an air of unreliability around female employees.
Any excuse is a good excuse
Any excuse is a good excuse for not complying with the equal pay statutes...huh? The problem is that many men always want to get a bigger piece of the pie, as with any organization, there is only so much money in the budget. When female employees invoke their rights, in no time at all, the are being disciplined, given poor evaluations, financially penalized or terminated...all retaliatory practices. By the way, if you would be more acceting of women and less critical of them, making them TRULY feel as they are an important element to the team and not just some "whipping boy(girl)", giving them recognition and acknowledgement for their successes, this rarely seems to happens anymore. The only thing that 's going on here, is an attemt to defend discriminatory practices.
Stop Discrimation Practices against Women in the Workplace
As discrimination has become more subtle and more difficult to identify and correct, many women
continue to endure unfair and unlawful discrimination in the workplace. Women face limits on promotion to high level management positions because of conscious and subconscious sex bias, and continue to experience sexual harassment on the job despite increased employer awareness of an employer’s obligation to take preventive and corrective action. Many companies apply for and receive state and federal grant money, sanctions against these abusive employers, administrators, managers and suervisors whose hatred towards women in the workplace are one of the remedies I am recommending.

I looked into this post. What
I looked into this post. What I have found is that a few women join the ranks of those laboring in a traditionally male dominated environment. Women are prepared for the back-breaking and often dangerous work, but coping with the harassment many female workers encounter from their male coworkers proves far more challenging. This includes verbal and physical abuse, and sexual harassment. The boss couldn't care less and tells them to take it like a man or worse yet treated like or referred to as men as a futile attempts to escape responsibility for the discriminating practices that persist. Times are tough. The last thing the men want is women competing for scarce jobs – women who, in their eyes, have no business driving trucks, working around railcars, and performing the same work as the men. If these women want to work then they will have to do it on the terms set by the veteran workforce and it won’t be easy. Take it or leave it. Shame, shame!
It is diffiicult to fathom
It is diffiicult to fathom that this behavior continues to plague our workforce and women rights continue to be violated. I recently read an article, that a study shows that equal pay for women will not become a reality until 2031. I know we can do better than that for our daughters, grandaughters and for the women that come after us.
As if it can't get any worse
I think they are trying to kill us all. We are only worthwhile as fetus vessels and porn. After that they could care less.
