Professor Goodwin Liu Nominated to California Supreme Court
Last week, California Governor Jerry Brown announced the nomination of Berkeley law professor Goodwin Liu to the California Supreme Court.
For over a year, we've been telling you about Goodwin Liu and his exceptional legal talents, dedication to public service, and exemplary qualifications. Professor Liu is one of the nation's leading experts on issues of educational equity and teaches constitutional law at one of the nation's best law schools. He has received the highest possible rating from the ABA's Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary. We know first-hand that he's committed to giving back to his community and his country — Professor Liu is a member of NWLC's Board of Directors!
When President Obama nominated Professor Liu to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, we asked you to speak up for this outstanding judicial candidate. With your help, we sent over 13,000 emails to Senators to urge them to support Professor Liu's nomination.
Even though a minority of Senators filibustered Professor Liu's nomination to the federal court in May, Governor Brown fortunately seized the opportunity to nominate Professor Liu to the highest California court. The federal courts' loss is California's gain.
