Take Action Today: It's All On the Line

The way deficit-reduction talks are going on Capitol Hill, it's all on the line for women and struggling families. Programs that help those who need it the most are under threat: Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, child care, Head Start, Food Stamps, Pell Grants and more are at risk of devastating cutbacks. Republican leaders are demanding deep cuts in vital programs, rejecting any revenue increases, and threatening to let the U.S. default on its obligations — causing another economic crisis — if they don’t get their way.

Don't let these important programs be held hostage in the deficit-reduction debates! Call your Senators toll-free at 1-888-907-1485 today! Ask them to insist on a budget plan that reduces the deficit responsibly and works for all Americans — not just millionaires and big business.

Dial 1-888-907-1485 to be connected to your own Senators' offices. Tell them:

  • Your name and that you are a constituent;
  • You're depending on them to prevent harmful cuts or caps to programs for low- and moderate-income people in the negotiations to reduce the deficit;
  • That they must insist on fair increases in revenues from those with the greatest ability to pay to prevent reckless cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, and other essential domestic services.

Though reducing the long-term deficit is an important step toward stabilizing and growing our nation's economy, we must do it responsibly. And, one of the best ways to reduce the long-term deficit is to create jobs now — not to make spending cuts that will eliminate more public sector jobs and weaken the economy.

With negotiations proceeding to craft a deal that may last a decade, we have to act now. So we're helping mobilize Americans to call the Senate this week to make our position known.

Join our National Budget Call-In Days through the end of the week. We need your voice: Call your Senators toll-free at 1-888-907-1485.

Remember: it's all on the line. We are determined to Demand Fair Change, Not Spare Change™, and we need your help now, more than ever.

Demanding Change.

We need to keep our vital programs running,and therefore we need change. We need to let Washington know that,we need to keep what is rightfully ours. Good Public Sector jobs should not fall by the wayside,because the Republicans and the Far Right want it that way. No bills were passed under the leadership of a Republican Congress in this session. The Speaker of the House is too preoccupied with other issues than to listen to what the real American people have to say.
The ones who are working more than one job to put food on their families' tables,or worry about education,and medical care. These are the ones who are also deeply concerned about mortgage or rent payments. Keeping their jobs,and making sure that,they never receive a pink slip. This is what concerns each and every one of us. They are not the minority here,they are the majority. The poor and the Middle Class are the ones who need Head Start,Food Stamps,Medicare,Medicaid,and other vital services that can keep all of us healthy,and out of the hospital setting. It is time for Washington to get a handle on their spending habits,and allow the rest of us to loosen our belts a bit.

The Debt Ceiling And Losing Our Vital Programs.

The Republicans will have the American people believe that, raising the debt ceiling is something that is crucial,and if the country defaults on its debts,so be it. That will teach the President to listen to them,and allow them to have a say. I believe that,the Republicans are so out of touch with what is going on,that they are quick to pass judgment on President Obama. Right now,the debt ceiling must be raised,in order for the United States Government to continue to pay its bills,and to make sure that,we have a good standing with the rest of the world. We cannot default! The President has the authority to use Amendment 14 of the Constitution,to raise the debt ceiling on his own,without any debate,or arm twisting.
We,as Americans realize that this is a very serious issue. It is so serious,that Medicare,Social Security,and Medicaid are on the line,right now! We cannot allow these vital programs to be cut,because the Republicans and their Far Right Partners,(the Tea Party),want to have less Government. However,having said that,we have to think of the long term implications.
Each and every month seniors will have to struggle more with paying their bills. Rent is a major issue,along with prescriptions and yes,Food Stamps. These are programs that were signed into law during the sixties,when Lyndon Baines Johnson was in office. Programs to help the Middle Class and the Poor to get decent medical coverage,(if they could not afford it themselves for their families). Not every job has medical coverage. Not every position is set in stone,when it comes to being permanent. Things are not the way they were back in the nineties,under the Clinton Administration.
We need to send Washington a message. We need to tell them "We are all fed up,and we want to see them act like they care about what we want! We did not elect them to carry their own agenda! We elected them to carry ours!
Head Start,Free Lunches to children who need them,and other vital programs must be kept in place. Washington is out of touch with what we need,and the sooner they act,the sooner we can all have some relief.
