What the Supreme Court Decision Means for Women: An FAQ
By now you’ve probably heard about the Supreme Court decision on the new health care law, but with all of the news stories focusing on political candidates’ reactions and Supreme Court gossip, you would be forgiven if you don’t know what this decision actually means for you and your family. The short of it is, all of the new protections we’ve been telling you about for two years will remain in place!
- No longer will you be charged more for coverage just because you are a woman or denied coverage because you have a history of breast cancer.
- Plans will be required to cover maternity coverage and won’t be allowed to drop your coverage when you get sick.
- Your dependent children can still stay on your plan until they turn 26 and you will be able to access preventive services such as a mammograms and contraception without cost-sharing.
