What Would You Ask a Supreme Court Nominee?

In just a few short weeks, the Senate will hold hearings on the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor for the U.S. Supreme Court.

The confirmation process — scheduled for the week of July 13, 2009 — will allow the Senate and the American people the opportunity to learn even more about this very impressive woman and jurist.

We invite you to become a part of this important Senate confirmation process by letting us know what matters to you and what you want to learn more about as we approach Judge Sotomayor's hearings. 

During the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings, Senators will ask Judge Sotomayor about her legal decisions, her views on the law, and her previous statements. Afterwards, the Committee will schedule a vote on her nomination, which could happen as soon as the week of July 22, 2009.

We are preparing briefing materials and recommended questions for Senate Judiciary Committee members and welcome your input as we move forward. We will be forwarding materials to the Senate Judiciary Committee next week.

Each Justice on the Supreme Court has a profound and lasting impact on the women of this nation and their families. Every year, the Supreme Court is confronted with cases involving legal issues of the utmost importance to women — making decisions that shape women’s legal rights to equal opportunity, to be protected from discrimination in the workplace, at school, and in other areas of their lives, and from government intrusion into their most personal decisions.
