Fact Sheet | Congress Must Lift the Ban for Abortion Services at Military Facilities

Members of the military and their dependents are currently prohibited from receiving abortion services at military hospitals except in cases where a woman’s life is endangered or the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest.  Senator Kristin Gillibrand and Congresswoman Louise Slaughter have introduced legislation, the Military Access to Reproductive Care and Health (MARCH) for Military Women Act, to repeal this unfair and unsafe law.   This bill would ensure women have access to abortion care – paid for with their own funds – no matter where they are stationed.

Fact Sheet | Give Military Women the Health Care Coverage They Deserve

Under current law, women in the military who are survivors of rape and incest are denied coverage for abortion care.  This coverage is less than the coverage provided to other women who rely on the federal government for health insurance.  Military women sacrifice for our country every day -- we should not thank them by giving them less health care coverage than their civilian counterparts.  The ban on health care coverage for abortion care in case of rape and incest should be lifted immediately.
