Blog Post | TANF Extension Passes Senate—But Emergency Fund, Child Support Funding Left Out

Shortly before leaving town on Friday for the Thanksgiving recess, the Senate voted by unanimous consent to fund the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program through September 30, 2011. The TANF program provides cash assistance, work supports and other services to families in need, and the extension will ensure that vulnerable beneficiaries do not experience a lapse in benefits beginning in December, when current funding for the program is set to expire.
