We're working to protect and improve family tax credits that can boost the earnings of low-wage workers and help parents meet child care and other expenses. We also conduct an annual tax credits outreach campaign to help families get the credits they deserve.

Fact Sheet | Frequently Asked Questions About Refundable Family Tax Credits

December 13, 2012

A number of refundable tax provisions that help working families, including the Child Tax Credit (CTC) and Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), were improved and expanded in 2001, 2003, and 2009. These credits, and their improvements, help millions of low- and moderate-income families work their way out of poverty, but the improvements are currently set to expire at the end of 2012.

Fact Sheet | McConnell Tax Plan Would Leave 30% of Single Mothers Behind, Deny Working Families $11.6 Billion in Tax Credits

September 15, 2010

A bill introduced by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, S. 3773, would permanently renew all of the provisions of the Bush-era tax cuts, including provisions that benefit only individuals with incomes above $200,000 and couples with incomes above $250,000.  It also would permanently reduce the estate tax on the very wealthiest estates.  However, the bill would not extend the improvements in the CTC and EITC.
