On June 1, 2011, the National Women’s Law Center sent a letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith and Ranking Member John Conyers, in strong opposition to H.J. Res. 1, the balanced budget constitutional amendment introduced by Rep. Goodlatte.  H.J. Res.

Thank You Letter to Congress for Supporting Essential Programs for Women and Families

On March 23, 2011, the Child Care and Early Learning Coalition sent a thank-you letter to Senators Mikulski, Murray, Gillibrand, Boxer, Feinstein, Shaheen, Hagan, Cantwell and Lautenberg, who during the floor debate on H.R. 1, spoke in support of essential programs that help women and children and specifically spoke in opposition to the proposed cuts to child care and Head Start.

Ten years ago a group of women who worked at Wal-Mart stores filed a lawsuit alleging that their employer engaged in company-wide sex discrimination, by paying women less than men, promoting fewer women to management positions, and promoting male employees more quickly. The case — now a class action — has made its way to the Supreme Court.
