Appeals Court Decision Expands Access to Emergency Contraception for All Women
(Washington, D.C.) Earlier today, the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals ordered that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration must comply with a previous court decision making the two-pill emergency contraception available over the counter and without age restrictions.
The following statement is from Marcia D. Greenberger, Co-President of the National Women’s Law Center:
“Once again, the message from the courts is clear: emergency contraception must be made available over the counter for all ages, and the burdensome practice of requiring girls 16 and under to obtain a prescription and all others to show an ID must end.
“The Center applauds today’s decision, which underscores the simple fact that there is no reasonable basis for restricting access to this safe and effective birth control.”
