NWLC Applauds Court Decision to Expand Access to Emergency Contraception
(Washington, D.C.) This morning, a federal judge ruled that emergency contraception, or the “morning-after pill,” must be made available over the counter for all ages, ending the practice of requiring girls 16 and under to obtain a prescription.
The following statement is from Marcia D. Greenberger, Co-President of the National Women’s Law Center:
“Today’s decision makes the ‘morning-after pill’ available over the counter and without age restrictions. Now this safe and effective birth control should be available to all who need it. The law is clear, and the judge recognized that the Department of Health & Human Services had no reasonable basis for putting roadblocks in the way of women’s health based on age.”
