NWLC Applauds President Obama's Selection of First Female Director of the Secret Service
(Washington, D.C.) Yesterday, President Obama appointed U.S. Secret Service official Julia Pierson as the first female director in the agency’s 148-year history.
The following is a statement by Marcia D. Greenberger, NWLC Co-President:
“We applaud President Obama’s decision to appoint the first woman to direct the U.S. Secret Service. Julia Pierson’s selection signifies a historic moment for law enforcement and underscores the significant contributions that women can make in this field. Since the first woman was sworn in to the Secret Service auxiliary in 1970 and five women were made full-fledged agents a year later, women’s roles and influence have expanded dramatically, reflecting their important contributions and the benefits to the entire country when women’s talents and skills are recognized.”
