NWLC Releases New Toolkit on Women's Preventive Services, Marking Women's Health Week

May 13, 2013

The National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) marked the start of National Women’s Health Week, May 12-18, by releasing a user-friendly toolkit that features information about women’s preventive health services available under the health care law known as the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

The NWLC’s new resources include educational fact sheets highlighting the broad range of preventive health services that women are currently eligible for – without co-pays or deductibles – under the ACA. The information also contains practical tools that women can use to contact their insurance companies or appeal any improper charges for co-pays and deductibles.

“Thanks to the ACA, health plans under the reach of the law can no longer charge a deductible or co-pay for women’s essential preventive health care like mammograms, birth control, and breast feeding counseling and supplies,” said NWLC Co-President Marcia D. Greenberger. “Because some insurance companies are still improperly charging women for these services, we’re providing an easy-to-use resource to help women navigate their insurance plans or appeal if they’ve been charged incorrectly. These tools will make it easier for women to secure the full benefits of this landmark law.”
