Shaheen Amendment Protects Women's Access To The Health Care They Need

March 22, 2013

(Washington, DC) Earlier today, the Senate voted to pass the Amendment to Protect Women’s Access to Basic Health Care, sponsored by Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D – N.H.) on the Senate budget for FY 2014.

The following is a statement by Judy Waxman, Vice President for Health & Reproductive Rights at the National Women’s Law Center:

“Three years ago this week, this country made a historic step forward in protecting women’s health by enacting the Affordable Care Act. Since then, in the states, in the courts and in Congress, we have seen repeated attacks on women’s ability to get the health care they need. The Amendment to Protect Women’s Access to Basic Health Care comes at a critical time. The National Women’s Law Center applauds Senator Shaheen for sponsoring and her colleagues who voted in support of this important amendment, which will ensure that women – not their bosses, not judges and not politicians – are able to make their own personal health decisions.”
