(Washington, D.C.) The National Women's Law Center (NWLC) is enlisting the power of moms across the country to help encourage their young adult children to visit Healthcare.gov and enroll in coverage through the health insurance marketplace, NWLC said today. “Word of Mom” is an innovative new tool, video and website allowing moms to gently nudge their adult children via Facebook, Twitter or email to learn about their new health insurance options and get covered. Moms also can sign up to be part of a collective reminder to adult children on November 1st.
“Even as adults, many young people still turn to mom for guidance and good advice,” said NWLC Co-President Marcia Greenberger. “As enrollment in the health insurance marketplace begins, who better than mom to remind their kids to take care of their health by getting covered? The Center is proud to be a part of the nationwide effort to help women and their families get the health care they need and to provide them with the tools and information to enjoy the full benefits of the health care law.”
Starting today, the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, will enable millions of women, men and their families to choose and enroll in a new, affordable health insurance plan, with coverage effective as soon as January 1, 2014. In every state, Americans will be able to select between comprehensive plans that cover essential health services like maternity care, prescriptions and a variety of preventive health services.
The Center is joined on this project by national organizations such as Enroll America, MomsRising, Planned Parenthood, MoveOn, SEIU and others, who are spreading the Word of Mom to their members and supporters.
