On March 1, 2013, across-the-board cuts to federal discretionary spending, known as "sequestration," are scheduled to take effect. These cuts will affect a broad range of programs that are vital to women and their families. Two of those programs are the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG) and Head Start. If sequestration takes effect, a total of 30,000 children will lose child care and 70,000 will lose Head Start across the country. Click on a state in the map below to see what the estimated impact of sequestration will be on these two programs.* For more information about sequestration and budget negotiations see our Federal Budget Roadmap.
*Data is from the "Report on Sequestration" distributed by the House Appropriations Committee Democrats.
