Privacy Policy

 

National Women's Law Center ("NWLC") has created this Privacy Policy to explain why it collects particular information and how it will protect your personal privacy within its web sites ("Sites"), including nwlc.org, action.nwlc.org, nominationwatch.org, fairplaynow.org, and womenstake.org. The following discloses NWLC's information gathering and dissemination practices for the Sites.

In order to fully understand your rights NWLC encourages you to read this Privacy Policy. NWLC reserves the right at any time and without notice to change this Privacy Policy simply by posting such changes on its Sites. Any such change will be effective immediately upon posting.

Because NWLC wants to demonstrate its commitment to your privacy, this Privacy Policy notifies you of:

   1. What personally identifiable information of yours is collected through the Sites;

   2. How such information is used;

   3. With whom your information may be shared;

   4. What choices you have regarding collection, use and distribution of your information;

   5. What kind of security procedures are in place to protect the loss, misuse or alteration of information under NWLC's control; and

   6. How you can correct any inaccuracies in your information.

What Information NWLC Collects and How It Uses That Information:

NWLC's registration forms for its advocacy network, to purchase NWLC materials, or to donate to NWLC require you to give it contact information that may include name, email address, format preference (HTML vs. Text), address, interests, and similar information. NWLC may also obtain information regarding your use of the Sites and their offerings. NWLC uses this information to fulfill your requests with respect to NWLC's offerings, support the activities of NWLC and improve its Sites and offerings. If you sign up for the advocacy network, NWLC may from time to time use your e-mail address to contact you regarding NWLC and issues and activities of likely interest to you. NWLC does not share its lists with other organizations for fund-raising or commercial purposes. From time to time, NWLC may send you materials by U.S. Postal Service mail when it thinks they may be of interest you. However, if you do not wish to receive materials by U.S. mail, you can let NWLC know by checking off a box at the end of the sign-up forms.

Tell-A-Friend:

If you elect to use NWLC's referral service for informing a friend about NWLC's Sites, NWLC asks that you provide the friend's name and email address. NWLC will automatically send the friend a one-time email inviting her or him to visit the Site(s). NWLC does not store this information beyond the time its takes to send this one-time email.

Share Your Story:

If you elect to use NWLC's Site(s) to share a personal story and/or photos, NWLC reserves the right to edit your story and post it on the Site(s) at its discretion. By submitting a story to NWLC, you consent to its editing, posting and other use on behalf of NWLC's goals and activities. You also agree to comply with NWLC's Terms of Use.

NWLC on occasion uses third-party vendors to provide services to its Sites or to NWLC. These services can include processing credit card transactions, fulfillment of merchandise requests, or facilitating fundraising campaigns. Information you provide on NWLC's Sites may be provided to these vendors on a confidential basis solely for the purpose of providing these services.

Internet Protocol Address:

NWLC collects an IP address from all visitors to its Sites. An IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer when you use the Internet. NWLC use IP addresses to help diagnose problems with its server, administer its Sites, analyze trends, track users' movement, gather broad demographic information for aggregate use in order for NWLC to improve the site, and deliver customized, personalized content. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information.

Use of "Cookies":

NWLC's Sites may use cookies to enhance your experience while using its Sites. Cookies are pieces of information that some web sites transfer to the computer that is browsing that web site and are used for record-keeping purposes at many web sites. Use of cookies makes web-surfing easier by performing certain functions such as saving your passwords, your personal preferences regarding your use of the particular web site and to make sure you don't see the same ad repeatedly. Many consider the use of cookies to be an industry standard.

Your browser is probably set to accept cookies. However, if you would prefer not to receive cookies, you can alter the configuration of your browser to refuse cookies. If you choose to have your browser refuse cookies, it is possible that some areas of NWLC's Sites will not function properly when you view them.

Security:

All credit card information provided to NWLC is transmitted using SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption. SSL is a proven coding system that lets your browser automatically encrypt, or scramble, data before you send it to NWLC. NWLC also protects account information by placing it on a secure portion of NWLC's web site that is only accessible by certain qualified employees of NWLC. Credit card information provided will only be used to fulfill your requests. Unfortunately, however, no data transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. While NWLC strives to protect your information, it cannot ensure or warrant the security of such information.

Other Web Sites:

NWLC's Sites contains links to other web sites. Please note that when you click on one of these links, you are entering another web site for which NWLC has no responsibility. NWLC encourages you to read the privacy statements on all such sites as their policies may be different from NWLC's policies.

Changes to Privacy Policy:

NWLC reserves the right, at any time and without notice, to modify this policy by simply posting such changes on its Sites. Any modifications will be effective immediately upon positing. If you have any questions or comments about this policy, or want to review or change any personal information previously provided please contact NWLC through any of the communication channels listed below.

Unsubscribing or Contacting the Sites:

If you do not want to receive any emails from NWLC in the future, visit your personal subscription management page to unsubscribe (please click here, log into your account, and select "edit profile"). Note that your donation and/or activist records will remain in NWLC's databases, but your log-in and email addresses will be deactivated.
