Holly Hemphill, Senior Counsel

Holly Hemphill joined the National Women's Law Center in 2009 after retiring as a partner in the Tax Department of a large international law firm. She has long been an advocate for expanding the role of women in the U.S. armed forces and was recently appointed by the Secretary of Defense as Chair of  the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services. She divides her work between tax policy issues and issues affecting military women.

Good News for Military Women—DACOWITS Is Back

by Holly Hemphill, Senior Counsel, National Women's Law Center The Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services (DACOWITS) is again up and running. The Committee was founded in 1950 by then Secretary of Defense George Marshall to advise him on recruiting, training and effectively employing more women in the armed forces at the time of the Korean War.
