Lisa Pearlstein is a Fellow with the Health and Reproductive Rights Team. She is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center and the University of Michigan. During law school, she interned with the Constitution Project, Senator Dianne Feinstein, and the NWLC. Prior to law school, she worked as a paralegal at the New York County District Attorney’s Office. In her free time, Lisa enjoys traveling and eating at D.C.’s best restaurants.

No-Cost Birth Control Could Save Women Hundreds of Dollars a Year

On Tuesday, the Institute of Medicine issued recommendations to Health and Human Services that health insurers should be required to provide coverage for the full range of FDA-approved contraceptive methods at no cost to women. If this recommendation is adopted, women who use birth control pills could save about $15 to $50 a month that they would have otherwise spent in co-pays. Women who use other methods of birth control, like IUDs, could save even more.

On Tuesday, Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels (R) signed into law an extreme measure that makes Indiana the first state in the nation to do what the Republican leadership in the U.S.

I hate going to the doctor. I dread it for days before my appointment, and when I complain about it to my fiancé, he shrugs his shoulders because his experience at the doctor's office is very different from mine. When he goes to the doctor, the most invasive tool used is a needle to draw blood.


Montana Gov. Vetoes Ban on Insurance Coverage of Abortion! Women in Virginia Not So Lucky

Earlier this week, Gov. Brian Schweitzer of Montana vetoed a bill that would have banned private insurance coverage of abortion in any exchange established in the state pursuant to the federal health care law.
