Yesterday, Nicole Oxendine and I got to take part in Feminism 2.0 — the first of what will hopefully be many conferences designed to bring together women’s advocacy groups and feminist bloggers to discuss the future of the women’s movement. After all, as a presenter from the National Women’s History Museum proclaimed in the first session of the day, “We speculate that Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony would be big-time bloggers today.”

While our colleague Gretchen Borchelt shared her expertise in the provocatively titled panel “Roe’s Safe — What Do We Do Now?” Nicole and I took part in sessions on reaching out to working women, empowering the next generation of feminists, the intersection between feminism and motherhood, and collaborations between bloggers and advocacy organizations.

Getting to put faces to some of the names I’ve seen around the blogosphere was a definite highlight of the day. But simply being in one place with so many smart women (and a few men too) talking about feminism and activism and what we should be doing better was fabulous in and of itself. And together, we got to celebrate the passage of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act — and discuss the path ahead for the pay equity movement.
