"As women, our individual experiences with the health care system may vary, but the message doesn't change: we've all got something at stake when it comes to health reform and we'll all benefit from a comprehensive solution to the health care crisis."

What Advocates Need to Know

Building from the National Women's Law Center's previous publications, including a series of issue briefs on Women and Health Coverage and Women and Medicaid: NWLC Toolkit for Advocates, the upcoming Reform Matters Toolkit: What Advocates Need to Know will help women's advocates be full participants in the health care reform movement at the state and national levels. This resource outlines the basics of health care reform and explores several reform issues and their impact on women's access to comprehensive, affordable, high-quality care.

As a growing number of national and state leaders make efforts to address the failing health care system, there have never been so many opportunities to ensure that women have access to the health care they need. Women's advocates can play an integral role in making sure that health reform plans address women-specific needs and the challenges that women face in the health care system. Armed with the knowledge of women's unique relationships with the health care system, advocates can use the Reform Matters Toolkit to analyze current reform proposals in their states, make informed assessments about how these reforms would impact women, and take action to effect real progress for women and health care.
