Has someone contacted you because they believe inequities exist at their school?
-
Are you aware of situations in your community where girls are treated worse than boys?
-
If so, you can do something. Here are just a few ideas:
- Use the resources of this website to check out the school and identify where there are Title IX problems.
- Talk to the principal or other school officials, such as the athletic director or the guidance counselor.
- Find out who is the Title IX coordinator at your school.
- Talk to parents and see if their children have had similar experiences - contact the PTA.
- Get in touch with organizations, like the sponsors of this site, who can help you.
- Contact your school board or your state or county representatives.
- Write a letter to the editor of your local paper.
- Get a reporter interested in writing a story about the problem.
- Help students, parents or coaches to file a complaint with the Office For Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Education to protest the inequities.
- Help students, parents or coaches to go to court to challenge the discrimination. Check out Breaking Down Barriers
