February 10, 2011
1pm EST
1. Welcome & Topic Introduction
- Lisa Codispoti, National Women’s Law Center
2. Medicaid: Opportunities & Challenges
This month’s discussion comes at a critical time. Medicaid, which is a key source of health coverage for women, is under unprecedented attack at the state and federal levels. On our call, we’ll review both the key Medicaid provisions in the new health care law, as well as the threats we are seeing to Medicaid. We’ll be joined by:
- Jocelyn Guyer, Co-Executive Director, Center for Children & Families at Georgetown University's Health Policy Institute
- Judy Solomon, Co-Director of Health Policy at the Center Budget & Policy Priorities
Our discussion will include:
- Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act:
- Basics of the Medicaid expansion under the health care law,
- the early implementing option for states,
- the maintenance of effort requirement– and what it means for states thinking about cutting their programs.
- Threats to Medicaid in the states and at the federal level, such as cuts in eligibility, covered services, provider reimbursement, waivers, and block grants.
