CONFERENCE CALL AGENDA
Hosted by the National Women’s Law Center
January 13, 2011
1:00 PM EST
1. Welcome & Topic Introduction
- Lisa Codispoti, National Women’s Law Center
2. The Affordable Care Act and the 112th Congress —
Even as various provisions of the new health care law take effect — and millions of women and their families are realizing the benefits — opponents are continuing their attacks. Next week, the House scheduled to vote on a bill that would repeal that law, and other legislation has been proposed to repeal specific provisions. Additionally, last December, the Chairs of the Deficit Commission released a list of proposals that would have broad and harmful implications for Medicaid and Medicare. As we begin the new Congressional session, hear from key House and Senate staff about the challenges we may see. We’ll be joined by:
- Cathy Hurwit, Chief of Staff, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky
- Mona Shah, Professional Staff Member, Senator Barbara Mikulski
3. Updates, announcements, future calls —
Next Reform Matters Call: Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 1pm EST.
- Topic: Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act. We’ve previously discussed how the Affordable Care Act makes it easier for states to provide expanded Medicaid family planning services. We’ll continue our conversation about Medicaid and the new health care law by discussing the key provisions in the new law, what the expansion will look like, the early implementing option for states, what the maintenance of effort provision means, and the kinds of challenges we are seeing at the state level given the challenging state fiscal conditions.
