2. Section 1557 Non-Discrimination in Health Programs
We are joined this month by Leon Rodriguez, Director of the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) at the Department of Health and Human Services. Judy Waxman will introduce Director Rodriguez who will discuss the ACA’s antidiscrimination provision—Section 1557—which prohibits discrimination based on sex, sex stereotypes, gender identity, race, color, national origin, age, and disability in health programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance; are administered by an executive agency; or were created under Title I of the ACA. He will also speak about OCR’s work generally, including how and the extent to which it is involved in ACA implementation. Participants will have the opportunity to ask Director Rodriguez questions during a Q&A facilitated by Judy Waxman.
