The National Women’s Law Center filed sex discrimination complaints against four long-term care companies in response to  their recently-announced practice of “gender-rating” long-term care insurance policies, or charging women more than men for the same coverage simply because they are women.  The complaints were filed with the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) under Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the first federal law to broadly prohibit sex discrimination in health care.
