Parents, You Can Make a Difference!

  • Are you a parent who thinks that your daughter's team is being treated worse than the boys' team? For example, does your daughter's team have hand-me-down uniforms while the boys' team gets new uniforms each year? Does your daughter have to change in the bathroom while the boys have access to the locker room? Does your daughter's team practice or play at inconvenient times? Does she get the same quality coaching as the boys?

  • Are there not enough opportunities for girls to play sports at your daughter's school?

  • If so, you can do something. Here are just a few ideas:

    • Use the resources of this website to check out your school and identify where there are Title IX problems.
    • Talk to the principal or other school officials, such as the athletic director or the guidance counselor.
    • Find out who is the Title IX coordinator at your school.
    • Talk to other parents and see if their children have had similar experiences - contact the PTA.
    • Get in touch with organizations, like the sponsors of this site, who can help you.
    • Contact your school board or your state or county representatives.
    • Write a letter to the editor of your local paper.
    • Get a reporter interested in writing a story about the problem.
    • File a complaint with the Office For Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Education to protest the inequities.
    • Talk to an attorney about your right to proceed in court.
