On March 6, 2024, NWLC submitted a comment in response to the Department of Education’s Request For Information regarding best practices to prevent and respond to sexual and dating violence in schools. NWLC provided recommendations on comprehensive sex education, staff training, police-free schools, dress code-free schools, trans-inclusive policies, school climate surveys, easy reporting options, supportive measures, confidential services, amnesty and anti-retaliation protections, prompt and equitable investigations, restorative processes, and proportionate and progressive correction. In addition, NWLC offered recommendations for schools to respond to sex-based harassment in a trauma-informed and culturally inclusive manner that takes into account the unique experiences of girls and women of color, pregnant and parenting students, LGBTQI+ students, disabled students, boys and men, and younger children and teens.
